Summer of Mindless, Vapid Apathy

Wed Jul 26, 2006, 7:40 AM
This lazy summer has given me much time for introspection. It has also allowed me to wonder why I even bother updating my journal, since I'm already so popular, and my works of art are treasured masterpieces, and my artistic skills are envied by the 41 people who viewed my profile.

But, that all aside, this summer has left me wondering, and even fretting about what I should study when I go to college. I find myself torn between what my father wants of me (to contribute to the betterment of society and make butt-loads of money), or what my mother says (to pursue what I enjoy doing). Between the medical, political, and law field on one side, and writing, art, acting, and directing on the other. I'll make money in the former, and risk low-income and failure in the latter. I still have time left to come to a decision, but there seems no end to this indecision in sight.

And what of colleges? Which one should I attend? Which ones will accept me? Should I go to a local college just for the sake of saving money and have a cruddy education, or travel to an out-of-state college and pay through the nose for a good education while leaving my family for the first time? Am I good enough to get any scholarships? How do I go about applying for them? Should I join the military so they can pay for my college tuition? Will colleges frown on my attending many different high-schools and switching between home-school and regular school frequently?

I feel a little overwhelmed right now. I'm starting my Junior year this fall, and I feel as though I need to, if not reach a definite decision, narrow my field of interest down significantly and get things organized so when the time comes to make a choice, I'll be prepared for it.
